Asparagus Production

Harvest Specifications

Our farm has 3 main types of harvest specifications based on our customers requirements.

The fresh specification is our most utilized and is marketed in our direct sales as well as our wholesale markets.  These spears are what you will find in grocery stores in the fresh produce section

The spears specification is what is used for a frozen product.  These spears are found frozen and packaged whole.  There are opportunities when we market these spears in their fresh form, the spears standard yields a shorter spear popular with some home chefs.

The cuts and tips specification is used in both the frozen and canned processing markets.  These spears will be further processed to be a certain length of cut and available in stores in the bags of frozen cuts or canned asparagus.

Commitment to Quality

Our farm has made the investments to not only grow, and harvest the best varieties of asparagus, but also to add post harvest steps on farm to maintain the best possible freshness and quality.

We have installed a hydrocooler on site that all of our product goes through shortly after being harvested in the field.  This process uses very cold water to chill the asparagus down to approximately 34 degrees.  At this temperature studies have shown that the shelf life and quality improves dramatically for asparagus.

Once we get the field heat out of the asparagus in the hydrocooler process, we then store on site in our cold storage room.  This will give us capacity to hold product, while maintaining the cold chain, until the end user can take delivery.
